Hard cherries.

The maraschino cherry has come of age, thanks to officials at Twisted Cherries, LLC, who have introduced a line of alcohol-infused cherries to the market.

They are available in three varieties: Original, Ball of Fire (cinnamon) and Island Rum, a limited edition featuring a tropical blend of pineapple, coconut and natural rum. The colossal cherries are handpicked from family-owned farms in the Pacific Northwest and then infused with premium spirits (6 percent Alcohol by Volume). A 12-ounce jar has a suggested retail of $7.99.

According to company officials, Twisted Cherries are the ideal addition to an adult ice cream sundae or summer smoothie, and can also be used in cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake, covered in chocolate, brownies or in classic cocktails like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned. They can also be enjoyed in soda or straight out of the jar.

"Twisted Cherries has now restored the original spirit of the maraschino cherry," says Larry Trachtenbroit, founder of Twisted Cherries, LLC, based in North Babylon, N.Y. "Cherries preserved in spirits are among the oldest and most popular ways to enjoy fruit, so much so that October 20th has been officially deemed National Brandied Fruit Day. Twisted Cherries now offers a contemporary twist on maraschino cherries while also hearkening back to their traditional recipe." For more information, visit twisted-cherries.com.
