Any who have not enjoyed Alan Garner's long-time classic Elidor (0132056246, $6.95) are in for a treat: four ordinary siblings looking for fun find themselves transported back in time to Elidor, a magical world newly overtaken by evil. They are given four treasures to guard in their own world--but just as they're starting to wonder if Elidor ever existed, they find the forces of evil have crossed over to gain access to the treasures. It's a pleasure to see Garner's story of enchantment, short-listed for the Carnegie Medal, in a eye-catching new format for new generations. Vivian Vande Velde's Now You See It (0152054618, $6.95) will reach the same age group with its story of Wendy, blind as a bat without her glasses, who is grateful she finds a pair when her new glasses break. These aren't any glasses, though: they reveal portals to other worlds and unusual creates--and even people are changed by them. When she comes to realize they've also brought danger, swift action results. Velde's A Well-Timed Enchantment (0152049193, $6.95) will reach ages 10 and up with its story of a difficult summer of Deanna, who faces her parents' divorce and a journey to the French countryside to stay with relatives she's never met. Her itinerary includes an unexpected trip back in time that involves her in medieval French mystery in this fine fantasy.
