Hanley wood acquires "Pro AV" magazine" & tradeshow.
Hanley Wood (Washington, D.C.), a company that serves the information needs of the housing and construction industries, has acquired "Pro AV" magazine and an accompanying web site from Ascend Media (Overland Park, KS). No terms were given. The acquired property will become part of Hanley Wood's Design Group, along with "Digital Home" magazine."Pro AV" was established in 1939 and is published monthly for a controlled circulation of 20,000 contractors, dealers, distributors and end-users in the education, medical, design, entertainment, government and health sciences markets, including systems integrators, designers/installers, consultants, architects, corporate training professionals, engineering management, and government officials. It is described as the only publication in the industry to focus equally on audio and video products and applications.
Editorial coverage focuses on the latest industry trends, technologies and products, as well as installations in all vertical market segments. Content in recent issues included stories and articles on" Internet protocols, residential installations, new audio theater systems, command and control installations for federal agencies, environmental issues, front projection screens and digital audio formats.
Hanley Wood Business Media President Peter Goldstone said the purchase of the title was "exciting on three levels. First, it extends our presence in the commercial segment of the construction industry. Second, it helps fulfill our strategy to service the technology sector and, finally, 'Pro AV' expands our portfolio of subcontractor information products."
In related news, Hanley Wood has acquired The Aqua Show from Athletic Business Publications (ABP; Madison, WI). Founded in 1993, (cont'd on p. 2) the show serves the pool and spa industry. "Aqua Magazine" was not part of the purchase and will continue to be published by ABP. The acquired show becomes the third event owned by Hanley Wood in the pool and spa sector, joining the International Pool & Spa Expo and the Backyard Living Expo. Related magazine produced by Hanley Wood include "Aquatics International," "Pool & Spa News" and "Professional Deck Builder." ABP will continue to publish "Athletic Business," "Hardwood Floors" and "Motorcycle Product News."
