s BUYOUT tycoon Guy Hands has branched out into garden centres, after snapping-up Britain's biggest chain. has en p His Terra Firma private equity firm fought off rivals to bag the Garden Centre Group in a deal said to value the business at pounds 276million.

e ue G d Hands said yesterday: "The Garden Centre has enormous potential and we see considerable opportunity to help it grow." The Garden Centre Group's bigg saco biggest shareholder is taxpayersaved Lloyds which took control when its previous owners got into trouble.

It has 129 centres across England and Wales and owns the Wyevale chain.

E t Hands is best-known for buying music label EMI bu f pounds 4 for pounds 4.2billion, just before the credit crunch.

He lost control of it because of huge debts.
