Environmental education, communication, and sustainability; v.20

This handbook introduces concepts, ideas and methods of sustainability research based on real examples. The articles are grouped into sections on theory, practical approaches, and education for sustainability. Individual essays tackle such topics as whether improving human well-being inevitably drains natural capital; sustainable packaging system development; promoting education for sustainable development; and obstacles to integrating sustainability into decision-making processes. The conclusion presents five lessons learned from the experiences and knowledge of the authors, who are international experts in life sciences, park management, urban planning and other disciplines. The most important lesson, the authors conclude, is the need for a culture of result-oriented sustainability research.
