Handbook of Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry.

This volume has been written by some of the best practicioners in the field of inductively coupled plasma spectrometry. With additional chapters by J.W. McLaren of NRC, I. Jarvis, and J.G. Williams, this volume gives an in-depth look at the ICP-MS and its application to real samples. Most of the authors are geologists, and hence there is a focus on the analysis of rocks.

The ICP-MS is susceptible to different effects than atomic emission machines, therefore, appropriate chapters on interferences and on sample preparation are included to illustrate the need, for example, to minimize chloride in order to reduce various isobaric interferences.

Two separate chapters cover liquid and gas and solid introduction with abundant references to literature which is thoroughly up-to-date (1991!).

This book would be very useful for anyone considering purchasing an ICP-MS, or who has recently purchased a machine.
