Hampton go up with a flourish! HOCKEY.

Byline: Alan Poole Sport Reporter

HAMPTON in Arden clinched the Midlands One title in emphatic style with a 4-0 romp against South Notts.

Dafydd Bowles again led the charge with a high-quality hattrick -a short corner drag flick, a penalty stroke and a sinuous dribble through the visitors' bewildered defence - to make it 44 goals for the season, two in front of Burton's Mark Northcott heading into the final weekend.

Alex Grafton completed the scoring with another reversestick special to remain third in the hot-shots list on 33.

But this was another excellent all-round display from a squad expertly led by coach Jon Doherty and skipper Jas Ghata Aura.

While Hampton prepare for top-flight action Coventry & North Warwickshire need some urgent summer surgery after a traumatic campaign, the latest instalment a 10-0 mauling at Bournville.

Even though the home side were missing top scorer Tom Rowland they packed far too much firepower for Coventry as Mike Baddely's hat-trick was backed up by Matt Dear (2), Mike Griffiths (2), Oliver Jones, Harry Rowland and Stefan Sekula.

Forced to travel with a barebones 11, Coventry showed admirable spirit as they con-fined their high-flying hosts to a 3-0 interval lead and created opportunities of their own via Simon Gilbert, Mitch Wise and Adam Figgins.

Gilbert threatened again in the second period while Gus Grieve had to settle for a short corner when he seemed to be denied a clear shooting opportunity.

But with no opportunity to replace tiring legs Coventry found themselves under increasing pressure and despite a typically brave display by goalkeeper Adam Merrell they couldn't contain their rampant rivals.

Rugby& East Warwickshire shared a 3-3 draw with Telford & Wrekin in the penultimate match of a see-saw season.

Having taken the lead via Szymon Oszyjczyk - his 31st of the term - Rugby fell behind to a couple of defensive mistakes.

Veteran Chris Graham showed his young colleagues that he still knows where the goal is, slotting home twice to give the home side a 3-2 lead, but Telford responded to claim a deserved point - Liam Hennessy, Callum Mackenzie and Dave Tracey their marksmen.

Berkswell & Balsall suffered a 5-2 East Midlands One reverse at Coalville, Simon Tite's strike and an own-goal eclipsed by Mike Browbank (2), James Carter, Steve Morley and Calum Slaney.

Micky Hayer reeled off four goals to boost his tally to 36 - one ahead of Silhillians' Jamie Glynn - as Sikh Union (Coventry) clipped Wednesbury 6-3 in an exhilarating West Midlands Premier duel.

Jag Bancil and Balwinder Singh were the other Union marksmen while Satnam Singh (2) and Ryan Fellows weighed in for Wednesbury.

Leamington cruised to a 3-0 West Midlands One win at Kingswinford with goals from Jared Fox, Richard Stanway and David Waby.
