LEWIS HAMILTON'S 2016 title defence has been rocked after his team accused an employee of trying to steal confidential files.
Mercedes have launched a High Court action against engineer Benjamin Hoyle, who is due to quit for Ferrari after Christmas, claiming breaches of contract and confidence.
In Particulars of Claim, they allege Hoyle "removed... hardcopy documents", "searched for and saved on the laptop confidential F1 information" and "saved files containing or comprising confidential F1 information to electronic storage devices belonging to Mr Hoyle personally", among other claims.
The team for whom Hamilton (above) has won the world championship two years running, are also seeking "springboard relief preventing Mr Hoyle from joining or commencing employment or otherwise assisting Ferrari, or any other F1 competitor... until after the conclusion of the 2016 F1 season."
There is no suggestion Ferrari are involved.
