Hamas Claims no Reconciliation Possible with Fayyad as PM.

Ramallah - PNN - Palestinian daily Felesteen has reported today that a senior Hamas official has announced that regardless of President Mahmoud Abba's determination for Fayyad as PM, Hamas will not allow it. Senior Hamas Official Moussa Abu Marzouk was quoted today as stating that Abba's position of insisting Fayyad as Prime Minister is 'unacceptable and unreasonable'. He continued to imply that the recent reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah that occurred earlier this year would be in jeopardy if Abbas did not shift his position, saying that Fayyad as PM would bring the Palestinians back to the 'pre-conciliation era.'President Abbas sees the retention of Salam Fayyad as crucial to keeping Western aid and good relations with the West. Fayyad is the preferred option of Western Governments for the PM position; however it is Fayyad's close proximity to the West that discourages Hamas.Political rivals Fatah and Hamas reconciled earlier this year, four years after Hamas took effective control of the Gaza Strip.
