Hajj Hassan welcomes Italian envoy, stresses terrorism eradication root to restoring stability.
NNA - Lebanese-Italian bilateral relations and most recent developments in Lebanon and the broader Arab region topped talks held on Tuesday between Minister of Industry, Hussein Hajj Hassan, and Italy's Ambassador in Beirut, Massimo Marotti. "We discussed the two-sided ties between our countries as well as the true wish to exert efforts in order to entrench them, especially among Italian and Lebanese businessmen," the envoy stated to reporters following the meeting. For his part, Hajj Hassan indicated that talks also focused on the joint projects between the two governments, on the level of industry and trade. He pointed out that he had highlighted, during the meeting, the necessity that Italy and the European Union play a key role in helping address the political issues in the region, particularly in terms of fighting the ever-expanding terrorism. "This very terrorism is menacing Europe," he noted, maintaining that uprooting terrorism shall restore stability. "This requires positive intervention (...) negative interference has led to the spiraling of terrorism phenomenon." "We do know that Italy has positive policies towards Lebanon and towards the key cause of Arabs and Muslims, Palestine," he said in response to a question. "Italy plays a crucial role in the European and international policy towards the region," he concluded. ===========R.A.H.
