HYUNDAI SELLS 1,000,000TH EXCEL
HYUNDAI SELLS 1,000,000TH EXCEL FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor
America today announced the sale of its 1,000,000th Excel, proving the demand for a high value, economical subcompact is more important now than ever.
"I attribute this successful milestone to the good value and abundance of standard features the Excel has consistently offered as an economical means of transportation since its launch in February, 1986," said Rod Hayden, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Hyundai Motor America. In November 1990 Hyundai celebrated the sale of the 1 millionth Hyundai in just five years. However, that included all Hyundai vehicles. Previously, it took Honda 10 years, Toyota 15 years and Nissan 17 years to sell a million units total, each. On Feb. 20, 1986 the first Hyundai Excel was launched after reaching the shores of the United States. It was an immediate hit with consumers and the press. Although the recession has had a negative effect on the auto industry, Hyundai is still going strong as proven by this most recent development. Usually the first to recover, the subcompact market looks forward to a dramatic upswing when the recession lifts. Since the Excel, Hyundai has increased its line to include the midsize Sonata, sporty Scoupe and newly introduced Elantra sedan. -0- 11/7/91 /NOTE: Photo transmitted on INS PhotoLink Network. /CONTACT: Debbie Douglas of Hyundai, 714-965-3856/ CO: Hyundai ST: California IN: AUT SU: AL -- LA013 -- 2169 11/07/91 11:28 EST
