HYUNDAI BEGINS SECOND CLASS FOR HYUNDAI ACADEMY OF AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

 FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced the beginning of the second class of South Central Los Angeles students enrolled in the Hyundai Academy of Automotive Technology. The first class of 15 students began in July 1992 and graduated in November.
 "Through this program, Hyundai will fill the demands for qualified technicians at local dealerships, while offering excellent career opportunities for high school graduates in the South Central Los Angeles community," said D.O. Chung, president, Hyundai Motor America.
 The program consists of an 18-week intensive training and certification program for automotive technicians. Students received instruction in eight automotive classes and one life skills class. Classes are held at Los Angeles Harbor College and at Hyundai Motor America in Fountain Valley. Students receive college credit as well as air conditioning and California smog certification credit. Students are compensated for attending classes and receive raises upon completion of State Smog certification.
 The class will consists of 15 students from the South Central Los Angeles area. Students in the second class include Juan Barboza, Daniel Castillo, Kevin Deloney, Horace Everett, Cesar Gonzalez, Donald Harmon, Reginald Lovett, Inita Mackey, Ernesto Martinez Jr., Javier Morales, Ernesto Sepulveda, Juan Soltero, Jose Zul, Noel Zuniga and Russell Roane Jr.
 The following criteria is necessary for selection in this program:
 1. Graduation from a South Central L.A. high school;
 2. 2-3 semesters of automotive experience;
 3. Top three graduating seniors in the automotive class; and
 4. Six-month commitment to the program.
 Local dealerships will provide jobs after students successfully complete the program which is designed to focus on developing the skills necessary to become entry-level technicians, as well as helping them prepare for full-time employment.
