HYUNDAI ANNOUNCES MID-YEAR PRICE ADJUSTMENT

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced a mid-year price increase on selected 1993 models averaging less than 1 percent.
The 0.9 percent increase on the Excel ranges from $100 to $150, on the Scoupe (standard model) it is $100 and the Elantra (standard model) is $150; there is no price increase on the Scoupe LS and Turbo and Elantra GLS models or the Sonata line.
"This price adjustment is necessitated by modest changes in the exchange rate," said N. Douglas Mazza, senior vice president and chief operating officer of HMA. "Every effort was made to keep from increasing the price to the customer and maintaining Hyundai's competitive pricing advantage. We feel we accomplished our objective of remaining sensitive to the continuing squeeze on the American pocketbook."
The 1993 Excel Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for Hyundai's most popular model starts at $6,899, an increase of $100. The sporty Scoupe model begins at $9,169 MSRP, an increase of $100. The Elantra's MSRP begins at $9,149, an increase of $150. Hyundai's top-of-the-line, roomy Sonata with standard air conditioning is still priced from $12,399 MSRP.
