HYDRO-QUEBEC TO TABLE GREAT WHALE DRAFT DESIGN REPORT THIS SUMMER

 MONTREAL, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hydro-Quebec is entering the editing and publishing phase of its draft design report on the Great Whale project. The report, which is being prepared according to directives the utility received in September 1992, will be submitted this summer to five environmental impact committees responsible for assessing it and to the government departments concerned.
 The draft design report contains a detailed description of the environment and the project's anticipated impact on it. An executive summary of about 200 pages will be available in French, English, Cree and Inuktitut. The report is divided into eight parts and consists of 30 volumes. It will run to approximately 4 000 pages, and will be translated into English. Part of a series of sectorial reports, intended to serve as reference documents, is already available at the Great Whale Public Review Support Office.
 Overall, the writing, publishing and translation of the report entails a considerable amount of work and the preparation of maps is a complex undertaking. To facilitate understanding of the report, Hydro- Quebec is examining the possibility of publishing a number of brochures that describe the Great Whale complex and its infrastructures, along with those portions of the report that are of most interest.
 The draft design report consists of the following sections:
 -- justification of the project (Part 1: two volumes);
 -- the hydroelectric complex (Part 2: 10 volumes);
 -- the transportation infrastructure (roads and airport) (Part 3:
 four volumes);
 -- appendices concerning the transportation infrastructure (Part
 4: three volumes);
 -- supervision of construction and environmental
 monitoring (Part 5);
 -- the 315-kV collector system (Part 6);
 -- communication on the project (Part 7);
 -- glossary and bibliography (Part 8).
