HYBRID TESTS SYSTEM INTEROPERABILITY W/ ORINOCO WLAN.

Hybrid Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: HYBR), a provider of high-capacity MMDS fixed broadband wireless Internet access systems, has unveiled that its fixed broadband wireless system is interoperable with ORiNOCO Wi-Fi wireless LAN systems manufactured by Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A), a global supplier of wireless LAN systems.

The use of a Wi-Fi wireless LAN provides in-home portability, enabling users to move computers around their homes without rewiring the Ethernet. In addition, Hybrid's Wireless Broadband Router(WBR), which can serve up to 60 IP addresses, and the ORiNOCO RG-1000 Residential Gateway can be placed together at any convenient location in a home or small business. This new flexibility in locating the WBR simplifies and shortens the coaxial cable run from the transceiver to the WBR, thereby reducing the total time and cost of installation of Hybrid's equipment.

"Customers and their subscribers greatly benefit from our product's compatibility with wireless LANs," said Michael D. Greenbaum, president and CEO of Hybrid Networks. "Achieving interoperability with a Wi-Fi wireless LAN is Hybrid's first step in offering a self-installed product. We're pleased that our system, combined with wireless LAN technologies, is moving the fixed broadband industry closer to achieving its goal of self-installation."

Angela Champness, director of product and business management for ORiNOCO products at Agere Systems, added, "Interoperability between ORiNOCO wireless LANs and MMDS fixed broadband wireless systems is a critical assurance that service providers and their customers will be able to take advantage of two of the industry's growing technological trends. Combining the ORiNOCO Residential Gateway with Hybrid's WBR provides flexible Internet access in the home that is easy to install and use."
