HURCO REPORTS ANNUAL AND FOURTH QUARTER EARNINGS
INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Hurco Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:

HURC) today reported annual earnings of $2,337,000, or $.43 per share, on revenues of $84,047,000, compared to earnings of $6,865,000, or $1.21 per share, on revenues of $97,169,000 for the 1990 fiscal year. Fourth quarter 1991 earnings were $903,000 on revenues of $22,671,000, compared to earnings of $1,094,000 on revenues of $24,939,000 for the same period last year.
Backlog on Oct. 31, 1991 was $7,200,000, compared to the backlog of $9,200,000 on the same date last year. Orders for fiscal 1991 were $78,800,000, compared to orders of $83,600,000 for fiscal 1990. Fourth quarter orders were $20,700,000, compared to $23,200,000 for the same period a year ago.
Lower sales volumes, reduced margins and new facility move costs reduced profit for the year. "Considering the dismal economic state of our primary markets, we are pleased with the company's performance during fiscal 1991," said Brian D. McLaughlin, president and chief executive officer of Hurco Companies, Inc. "The company has been able to remain profitable while continuing to strategically invest in product development, customer service and marketing.
"We believe the company's 1992 first quarter will be under additional pressure. In the near term, we cannot predict improvement in the U.S. and U.K. economies, and there may be further decline in the German economy."
