HUNTINGDON INTERNATIONAL HOLDINGS IS HONORED WITH
 MAJOR CIVIL ENGINEERING AWARD

Travers Morgan subsidiary chosen for Hong Kong Airport Railway Project
LONDON, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Huntingdon International Holdings (NYSE: HTD) today announced the success of its subsidiary, Travers Morgan Ltd, in the prestigious annual British Construction Industry Awards. The Conwy Crossing Tunnel in North Wales, which was designed by Travers Morgan, won the Civil Engineering Award. Travers Morgan was also responsible for construction supervision. The award was presented last night by Sir George Young, Minister for Housing, Planning and Construction.
The Conwy Crossing, opened by Her Majesty the Queen in October 1991, is Britain's first immersed tube road tunnel and carries a two lane dual highway through its 1.1km length. The tunnel forms an important link in the A55 North Wales Coast Road development, for which Travers Morgan has acted as consulting engineer since 1969.
Engineers working on this complex project had to overcome many difficulties, including extremely poor ground conditions and high sediment content in the estuary. However, Travers Morgan's approach to crossing the estuary by tunnel virtually eliminated the major environmental impact on this World Heritage site, consisting of the historic town of Conwy, its medieval castle and the natural environment of the estuary.
Travers Morgan is one of the world's leading exponents of immersed tube tunnels. Tunnels, such as Conwy, are advantageous across long, low flat estuaries with poor ground conditions. As worldwide awareness of the environmental impact of major engineering and infrastructure projects grow, tunnelling is likely to be increasingly favored over alternative bridge proposals in environmentally sensitive areas.
Commenting on the announcement, Huntingdon Chairman Ben Wooley, said, "I congratulate Travers Morgan on this outstanding achievement. Their success in winning this award typifies the high professional standards exhibited by Huntingdon companies in responding to their clients' needs. Work of this quality inevitably brings its rewards both through the professional recognition gained from such awards and from continuing demand for these specialized services, as is being experienced by Travers Morgan. Along these lines, I am delighted to announce that Travers Morgan has just been selected to provide design and consulting services for the immersed tube tunnel section of Hong Kong Airport Railway, which links the new airport with the Central District of Hong Kong."
