HUNTER SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES $3.1 MILLION PLACEMENT
SOUTHPORT, Conn., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunter Environmental

Services, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: HESI) announced it has successfully completed a placement of approximately 1.2 million shares of common stock and 600,000 warrants to purchase common stock. The total proceeds from the placement were approximately $3.1 million.
Each warrant provides the holder with the right to purchase one share of common stock at $3.50 per share for a period of two years.
The proceeds of the placement will be used to finance the efforts of HESI's majority owned subsidiary, Hunter Industrial Facilities, Inc. (HIFI), to obtain permits to develop and operate the nation's first facility to dispose of solidified hazardous waste in caverns solution- mined in massive salt domes deep below the earth's surface. This facility will be located in Liberty County, Texas, contingent upon the receipt of necessary permits.
The shares sold had been held in treasury following the termination of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. HESI's Chairman, Oliver A. Kimberly, Jr. said, "This placement provides additional working capital toward the permit process and demonstrates significant interest in Hunter from the investor community."
 Salt Dome Project Hearing Status
After a lengthy delay, the evidentiary portion of the public hearings began on June 29, 1992, and are expected to continue to conclusion sometime in September, 1992. The final decision on the permits by the Texas Water Commission (TWC) -- the state regulatory agency for hazardous waste disposal -- is expected around the end of this calendar year.
 Salt Dome Project Background
In fiscal 1990, HESI began a program to divest all of its operating businesses to concentrate its resources to pursue permits to develop a facility to dispose of hazardous waste in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
Located 30 miles northeast of Houston, the North Dayton Salt Dome offers ideal characteristics for the siting of a hazardous waste disposal facility:
-- Neighboring Harris County, Texas is the nation's largest generator of hazardous waste.
-- Texas and Harris county generators currently export a large percentage of their hazardous waste out of state for disposal.
-- Liberty County is predominantly an agricultural area with a low- density population affording available land for the hazardous waste facility, adjacent industrial park and surrounding green belt areas, away from major population centers.
-- Salt domes have been employed safely for decades to store hydrocarbon products under high pressure as well as 500 million barrels of crude oil for the United States Department of Energy's Strategic Petroleum Reserve. There are currently some 1,500 salt dome caverns in operation in the United States.
Hunter Environmental Services, Inc. is an environmental service company devoted to developing and providing environmentally safe solutions to the fundamental problems surrounding the disposal of hazardous waste.
