HUMAN RESOURCES LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENT AT KPMG PEAT MARWICK
SIGNALS NEW STRATEGIC, COMPETITIVE POSITIONING FOR FIRM
NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG Peat Marwick today named Mary Dupont to head its national human resources department. Under her leadership, the firm will strategically redirect its human resources activities to gain competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Dupont's appointment comes at a time when KPMG Peat Marwick has begun to implement a series of progressive partner and employee human resources initiatives in the areas of incentive programs, female partner issues, and flexible work schedule programs.
According to the firm's Chairman and CEO Jon C. Madonna, "Our firm intends to become regarded as the professional services firm of choice in the 90's. This goal applies to our marketplace perception with clients as well as with our partners, professional staff and employees. In order to be the best and most profitable firm, we must recruit, train and retain the best and brightest people. Mary Dupont is both qualified and committed to make that happen."
Among her new responsibilities, Dupont will direct national programs for compensation and benefits, international personnel exchange, campus recruitment and orientation, internal training and development, and academic relations. In addition to initiatives for the nearly 20,000 current professionals and employees in the firm, she will provide programs for retirees and alumni, and play a leadership role with the KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation.
"I hope to break new ground on such issues as diversity in the workplace, dual-career families, and management training," said Dupont. "The concerns of female partners are of particular interest to me, and I plan to find ways to help women rise to new levels of firm leadership."
With her appointment, Dupont becomes the first woman to lead the human resources department of a Big Six accounting firm.
Previously, Dupont, a certified public accountant and an attorney, was partner-in-charge of the firm's Stamford, Conn. office tax practice, a post she held since 1989. With her leadership the Stamford tax practice experienced record growth, becoming one of the firm's largest tax practices.
A partner since 1979, Dupont, 44, joined KPMG Peat Marwick in 1968, working in the Boston office.
She serves as a member of the human resources committee of the firm's board of directors and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Active in community affairs, she is immediate past chairman and current member of the board of directors of the United Way of Westchester and Putnam Counties, and previously served as a trustee of the Westchester Council for the Arts.
A graduate of Bryant College, Dupont received a law degree from Boston's Suffolk University Law School in 1976.
Through 135 offices in the United States, KPMG Peat Marwick provides industry-specific accounting, taxation, and consulting services to a broad range of businesses and other organizations in the financial, commercial and service sectors.
