HULL TRADING WINS SPECIALIST ALLOCATION FOR AMEX'S
 STANDARD & POOR'S MIDCAP 400 OPTIONS
NEW YORK, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock Exchange today announced that its Specialist Allocation Committee has selected the firm Hull Trading Company to be the specialist unit for the exchange's options on Standard & Poor's new MidCap 400 Index. A proposal to trade MidCap Index options is awaiting Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) action, and put and call trading will begin trading shortly after permission is granted.
In October of 1991, Standard & Poor's Corp. (S&P) granted the Amex the exclusive right to trade options on its MidCap 400 Index. The Index is composed of 400 companies with a median market capitalization of about $700 million and a total market value of about $400 billion. To date, institutional investors have indexed more than $2 billion in assets to the index.
Founded in 1985, Hull Trading is a private partnership serving as a market maker in options, futures and equities in markets in Chicago, New York, and London. The firm is currently the specialist unit for the Amex's Institutional Index options (XII), and is a market maker in options on the Major Market Index (XMI), the Japan Index (JPN), Philip Morris, Procter and Gamble, DuPont, American Express and Walt Disney.
The Amex trades a total of 261 stock options, including 73 options on over-the-counter stocks. In addition, options are traded on four broad market indexes -- the Major Market Index (XMI), XMI LEAPS(SM) (XLT), the Institutional Index (XII) and the Japan Index (JPN) -- as well as two industry-based indexes -- the Oil Index (XOI) and the Computer Technology Index (XCI). CAPS -- capped options -- are traded on XMI and XII as well. The exchange also trades 22 LEAPS(SM) on leading stocks which have expirations up to almost three years.
