HUGHES TO DEMONSTRATE NEW SOLUTION AND PROCESSES
TO ELIMINATE USE OF CFCs IN ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURING, JAN. 23
Hughes Aircraft Co. will announce and demonstrate, at a press conference at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, a new Hughes-developed solution and processes that eliminate the major use of ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) from the manufacture of electronics. Scott Walker, Hughes senior vice president and member of the office of the chairman, will host the press conference at the Hughes Corporate Offices, 7200 Hughes Terrace, Westchester. Expected to attend is Henry Wedda, chairman of the governing board of the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Although some electronic manufacturers building to commercial standards have been able to remove CFCs from the workplace, Hughes' development is considered a breakthrough for defense electronics, which must meet rigid military specifications and quality standards. CFCs, banned by international agreement for use by the year 2000, are currently employed in the manufacture of nearly all high-quality electronics.
The developer of the solution will be available to demonstrate the product.
