 HUGHES STX WINS $9.7 MILLION NOAA CONTRACT
 LANHAM, Md., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes STX Corporation


announced today that it has won a $9.7 million contract to provide software development, maintenance and science support for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Information Processing Division (IPD) of the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Services (NESDIS). SM Systems and Research Corporation (SMSRC) joined the Hughes STX team as a major subcontractor for this effort. The contract is for one year with four option years.
 The NESDIS IPD is responsible for receiving, processing and distributing meteorological satellite data. These data images and derived products are sent to organizations worldwide, on a 24-hour-a- day, seven-day-a-week operational basis. Under terms of this contract, Hughes STX will provide IPD with consolidated maintenance and development support for all operational, developmental and data communications software. In addition, Hughes STX will be responsible for expanding the overall configuration management and problem resolution capabilities within IPD. This IPD approach of centralized management of software activities will provide them with overall improvements in their operation.
