HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY INSTALLS SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES LASER RADIO TERMINALS FOR INVENTORY

BOHEMIA, N.Y., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Symbol Technologies, Inc., (NYSE: SBL) the world leader in bar code-driven data transaction systems, today announced it has supplied its Laser Radio Terminal (LRT 3800) and Spectrum One(R) wireless data communications network to the Hudson's Bay Company, Canada's largest retailer, for online inventory and other in-store applications.
The multimillion-dollar sale is the second recent Symbol order to Hudson's Bay Company: In December, Symbol announced it was providing its Laser Radio Terminal and Spectrum One network for use at Hudson's Bay Company distribution centers for UPC and price verification of vendor source-marked merchandise and merchandise sortation.
Based in Toronto The Hudson's Bay Company is North America's oldest company. It was established in 1670 and operates two major department stores chains, The Bay, a full-line department store with 95 locations, and Zellers, Canada's premier mass retailer with more than 275 outlets.
Hudson's Bay Company is using the Laser Radio Terminals to perform online inventory at each of its stores. Bar code merchandise is scanned by Hudson's Bay inventory teams equipped with Laser Radio Terminals. The scanned information is communicated in real-time to the store host computer via the Spectrum One(R) network and reconsiled.
The online inventory system replaces a manual paper-based method which has not only improved the accuracy of the inventory count but also captures UPC/SKU level detail at the same time.
Hudson's Bay recently completed the yearly inventory at all of its stores across the country using Laser Radio Terminals operating simultaneously to complete the inventory count at UPC/SKU level detail at the same time.
