HUDDERSFIELD DISTRICT: Shelley: Appeal for volunteers to help with work on the Whins.

CONSERVATION Kirklees and the Shelley Conservation Group are looking for volunteers to help them carry out work on the heathland known locally as Shelley Whins tomorrow (Sunday).

They will be cutting back gorse to keep the heathland open and so that the habitat can be managed for birds and wildlife. They will be on site from 10am to 3.30pm.

Anyone who wants to help should meet on the footpath off Far Bank, Shelley, at 10am.

A packed lunch, along with clothes and footwear suitable for outdoor work, will be needed.

CONTACT: Participation is free but places must be booked in advance by calling Simon Pedley, of the Kirklees Countryside Unit on: 01484-234073.
