TELECOMWORLDWIRE-20 March 2002-HP shareholder vote conducted - official result may take a month (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Following the shareholder meeting for the Hewlett-Packard and Compaq merger both sides have issued statements on the outcome.

The chief executive for HP - Carly Fiorina - has claimed that preliminary results indicate a "slim but sufficient" majority of shareholders wanting the merger to go ahead. HP board member Walter Hewlett has stated that the results are not decisive enough to predict any majority one way or the other.

The final outcome of the shareholder vote will reportedly not be known for possibly a month while the official vote counting takes place.
