HP Announces the OfficeJet Pro 1150C All-Color Printer-Copier-Scanner for Small Businesses; New All-in-one Product Delivers No-compromise, Professional-quality Color Printing, Color Copying and Color Scanning for Under $1,000.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1997--Hewlett- Packard Company, a leader in the color-inkjet printer and scanner markets, today introduced the HP OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner, a new generation of all-color OfficeJet all-in-one products for small businesses, professional home-office users and corporate telecommuters.

The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner is designed to deliver state-of-the-art color inkjet printing, color copying and color flatbed scanning, making it easy for users to produce "no compromise" color materials in-house rather than relying on expensive outside service bureaus. It is expected to sell for about $999 (U.S.).

"Small businesses no longer need to spend time and money going to outside services for top-quality production capabilities -- they can now afford to bring that work in-house."


The all-in-one market is the fastest-growing segment of the hardcopy market. Worldwide sales in that market could exceed $10 billion by 1999, according to Giga Information Group, a Norwell, Mass.-based research firm. HP has led the all-in-one market since 1994, when it introduced the original OfficeJet printer-fax-copier.

"The new OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner represents a whole new generation of HP's all-in-one products -- and a new standard for the competition to match."


The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner delivers "best-in-class" color inkjet printing, color copying and color scanning demanded by small businesses, full-time home-office professionals and corporate telecommuters.

The new all-color, all-in-one device prints crisp black text at speeds up to 8 pages per minutes (ppm), mixed text and color documents at speeds up to 4 ppm, copies monochrome documents at speeds up to 7 copies per minute (cpm) and color documents at speeds up to 3 cpm. It can scan a color image into an existing document in less than a minute.

The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner also incorporates up to 1,200 dots-per-inch (dpi) enhanced, 24-bit color scanning. Customers can scan color and grayscale documents with precision and speed and then edit those images. Customized scanned images then can be easily incorporated into proposals and business plans, marketing materials and presentations.

The product comes with a suite of HP-developed "smart" technologies that make complete color document management easy. These include ColorSmart color-management software; CopySmart, which automates digital copying; FontSmart, which simplifies font management; and ScanSmart, which makes acquiring text and color images as easy as printing.

ScanSmart, which works in the background, allows users to add images to 32-bit applications with three simple mouse clicks. Without ScanSmart, about 18 mouse clicks and the launch of two applications would be needed to incorporate a picture into a document.

CopySmart enables small businesses to make full-color copies easily and affordably and features such popular copier options as reduction and enlargement, color intensity, paper-type and copy-quality controls. There also is an "auto-enlarge" feature that adjusts copy settings automatically, making it easy for users to enlarge a document or image to 8.5 x 11 paper size.

The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner comes with Adobe(TM) PhotoDeluxe, a simple yet powerful tool for editing and managing scanned images. The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner also comes with Caere OmniPage LE optical character recognition (OCR) software, which recognizes printed text and converts it to electronic form. Customers can then edit, save, e-mail and PC-fax the documents conveniently.


The color printing, copying and scanning functions of the OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner are integrated by an intuitive and comprehensive software program that guides the customer through setup and allows users to perform tasks and access on-screen help with one click of the mouse.

The OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner comes with a bidirectional parallel cable and all of the software necessary to make installation quick and easy. Diskettes and CD ROMs containing the software and utilities are included to help users install each integrated function easily. To enhance the product's ease of operation, the online troubleshooting software uses simple language and color graphics to guide customers through unfamiliar tasks.

The new OfficeJet Pro 1150C color printer-copier-scanner is optimized for use with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95 and is compatible with 3.1 and DOS operating environments. Like all HP inkjet products, the OfficeJet family of all-in-one products is Energy Star-compliant.
