HOW TO PREVENT TELEPHONE FRAUD TO GET SPOTLIGHT AT SETA -- MCI FRAUD EXPERT SHOWS HOW TO 'HACKER-PROOF' PHONE SYSTEMS --

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) will tell attendees of the upcoming Southeastern Telecommunications Association (SETA) convention how to fight back against hackers, phreakers and shoulder surfers.
The 1:30 p.m., Aug. 30, MCI telephone fraud seminar highlights the opening day of the SETA convention at the Opryland Hotel -- an annual gathering of telecommunications professionals from the southeastern United States.
To help companies combat telephone fraud -- a multibillion dollar criminal activity -- MCI provides a state-of-the-art security program designed to track abuses and reduce a business's vulnerability to fraud.
The MCI seminar describes and offers tips on how to protect against the various types of telephone fraud including: PBX fraud, voice mailbox fraud, third-party and collect calling fraud and calling card fraud.
"Any company that has a phone system and any business person who uses a calling card in a public place for that matter can be victimized by fraud," said Karen Corcoran, MCI investigator and host of the seminar.
"There are two kinds of fraud victims: Those who've been hit and those who will be hit."
As part of her seminar, Corcoran will explain how a hacker might invade a company's telephone system. She then explains specific steps businesses can take to lock hackers out.
MCI's Ellenberger, Proof Positive Also Featured at SETA
MCI Business Services' Vice President Richard Ellenberger will also speak at SETA's opening day luncheon sponsored by MCI.
Ellenberger will discuss the conflicting claims and confusion experienced by business people when making telecommunications decisions, and MCI's revolutionary Proof Positive program that cuts away the clutter.
Proof Positive From MCI is a revolutionary way of doing business that documents in writing every 90 days three proofs for businesses:
-- MCI saves business customers money and demonstrates these savings
with comparisons to AT&T's most widely used calling plans.
-- Customers always get MCI's best price. If a business customer
would have paid less using any other MCI calling plan, MCI
 automatically credits the difference.
-- MCI always does what's right for customers' businesses. As new
products are developed and customers' long distance needs change,
MCI will suggest actions businesses can take to further reduce
 their bills.
Throughout the Aug. 30 - Sept. 1 SETA convention, MCI will introduce and conduct an interactive mystery game that explains Proof Positive at the MCI booth in the exhibit hall.
