HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER MATTHEW J. RYAN ISSUES STATEMENT
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement issued today by House Republican Leader Matthew J. Ryan:
Along with other members of the House Republican Caucus, I am quite disappointed with the lack of action by the Democratic majority in the House yesterday concerning the revision of the onerous tax situation facing all Pennsylvania citizens. It was my hope that we would finally address the various inequities which exist in the 1991-92 tax package. The inability to rectify the situation demonstrates to me the insensitivity of the House Democratic leaders in restoring tax fairness to all state taxpayers.
We, as the Republican Caucus, have been prepared to offer major changes in the Democratic tax package, which dumped more than $3 billion in taxes on the backs of Pennsylvanians. We were prepared last spring; we were prepared last summer, and we are once again prepared to address this unfair and unnecessary millstone.
The House has been in a position since last Wednesday to act on these tax wrongs. Unfortunately, the House Democratic leadership was not ready to offer a solution -- another wasted week. Now we're off for the Thanksgiving recess and the annual deer hunt. I am hopeful that with only a few session days remaining in this legislative year, the Democrats will finally join Republican ranks in solving this crisis. Another delay only compounds the tax burden for everyone.
