 HOUSE JOINS TENNECO AS VICE PRESIDENT, CORPORATE AFFAIRS
 HOUSTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TGT) announced


today that Arthur H. House has joined the company as vice president, corporate affairs. He was formerly vice president, corporate communications at Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, Conn.
 In his new position, House is responsible for corporate communications and investor relations. He will also work closely with Tenneco's government relations office in Washington, D.C., as well as the company's six major operating divisions. He reports to Michael H. Walsh, chairman and chief executive officer.
 "I view communications and our relationships with our internal and external audiences as key elements in the way we do business," said Walsh. "Art has a solid record of achievement in these areas, and he will play an important leadership role at Tenneco."
 Before joining Aetna in 1990, House was senior vice president, corporate affairs at Shawmut National Corporation from 1988 to 1990, and he was a vice president at CIGNA Corporation from 1981 to 1988.
 House, 49, has also been an administrative assistant and committee staff director in the U.S. Senate, a White House Fellow with the National Security Council, a staff member of the World Bank, and assistant dean at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, in Medford, Mass.
 House earned his doctorate in international relations at Tufts University in 1971. Also at Tufts, he was graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1964.
 Tenneco is a diversified industrial company with major business interests in natural gas pipelines (Tenneco Gas), farm and construction equipment (J I Case), automotive parts (Tenneco Automotive), shipbuilding (Newport News), packaging (Packaging Corporation of America), and chemicals (Albright & Wilson).
