PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In light of the fact that hurricanes and crime stories have put a dent in Florida's tourism for the past couple of years, one company plans to maintain and even increase its tourism business in Florida with a familiarization tour of the state.
This week, 14 sales agents from Ramada Franchise Systems' Reservations Center in Knoxville, Tenn., will take a familiarization tour of Florida and the Ramada product in the state. Over the course of five days, these agents will visit 19 cities throughout Florida -- from west coast to east coast and from north to south. Along the way, they will become familiar with the state, various local attractions, and, of course, the Ramada product in the area. They will actually make stops at 30 of the 60 hotels Ramada has in Florida/
This tour was put together by the members of the Florida Ramada Management Association (RMA), a regional group of general managers directors of sales and franchise owners, who meet monthly to discuss issues of relevance to the operation of their hotels. Cindy Bower, CHA, (who is president of the Florida RMA and was recently named Orlando's "1991/1992 Hotelier of the Year"), explains, "The reason for this tour is to educate the sales agents so they can more easily steer travelers to a wider variety of destinations throughout the state." The reservations agents were selected based on their performance against certain sales goals in the first quarter of 1993.
Ramada has 32 Regional Management Associations throughout the United States but this is the first time a trip of this kind has been undertaken. "It took a great deal of planning on the part of many people to pull this off," says Ms. Bower, "but we are sure that these agents will go back to their positions with a much better knowledge of the state and what it has to offer and that will provide a service to our potential customers."
Ramada Franchise Systems Inc., is a mid-priced chain of more than 600 inns, hotels, suites, and limited facility properties throughout the United States. The parent company, Hospitality Franchise Systems, Inc., is the world's largest franchiser of hotel rooms, and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HFS".
