HOT NEW TURBO FROM PEUGEOT; Up to speed.
THIS should set the hearts racing of car enthusiasts around my age: a new hot Peugeot hatchback.
Although the French maker didn't invent the hot hatch, it built one of the best of all time in the iconic 205 GTI. Subsequent attempts have been a bit disappointing, so let's hope this new effort has the old magic.
The 207 GT is available as a three-door only (a five-door hot hatch is not quite right) and is powered by a new 150bhp turbocharged 1.6-litre engine that's a result of a joint project between Peugeot and BMW.
The GT comes with a host of kit including six airbags and a range of safety systems. It goes on sale in November for pounds 14,345. Even better news is that later there'll be an even more powerful version, also with a turbocharged engine.
Anoraks will know that the last time Peugeot offered a turbocharged hot hatch, it was a rally car. Remember the rear-engined 205 T16 anyone?
