HOSPITAL BAN TOP SURGEON.
John Rogers, who earns pounds 70,000 a year from the NHS, has been forced to stop working while officials investigate "alleged administrative irregularities".
But some doctors at the Royal London Hospital where he is a consultant in gastro- enterology claim he is the victim of back- stabbing by envious colleagues.
And others say he was suspended because of a row over private work. Rogers has a private practice at three private hospitals in London.
As well as being suspended from his NHS work at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, he has also been forced to stay away from his post as senior lecturer in the hospital's medical school.
But his professional ability is not under question.
A colleague rated him as one of the top experts in keyhole surgery.
"There are only around 100 surgeons who are genuine experts in keyhole surgery, and he is pretty near the top of the pile," he said.
Rogers, who specialises in operations to treat obesity, said: "It is not at all clear to me why I have been suspended."
