HORSE RACING: TWO GRADE I STAKES RACES READY.
Santa Anita, after taking an eighth unscheduled day off from racing Friday to continue renovating its synthetic surface plagued by drainage problems, plans to be back in business for today's 12:30 p.m. 10-race card, which includes two Grade I stakes.
Somethinaboutlaura has been made the 5-2 favorite for the $250,000 Santa Maria Handicap, which is the third race of the day. In the seventh race, Lovley Isle is the early 3-1 favorite for the $250,000 Las Virgenes Stakes.
Friday's nine-race card will be redrawn and run Feb. 13, the track said.
Last Sunday, the track began mixing a stabilizing binder into the synthetic surface that will allow rainwater to drain through the seven inches of Cushion Track that lies atop a porous asphalt base. But rain delayed the progress and canceled that day's card.
The current meeting runs through April 20.
