Googling a runner San Marino 2.30 Exeter San Marino is a country situated in the Apennine Mountains. It is a landlocked enclave, completely surrounded by Italy. It is the oldest recorded sovereign state and constitutional republic in the world, having been founded on September 3 301 by stonecutter Marinus of Rab. February 14, 1980 Sonny Somers, at the age of 18, equalled the record for the oldest horse to win a race in Britain when landing the Star and Garter Handicap Chase at Southwell. Ridden by 20-year-old Ben de Haan (then a 7lb claimer), the sprightly and enthusiastic veteran came home eight lengths clear.

Sonny Somers scored the last victory of his career at Lingfield a fortnight later. He had been an invaluable tutor to several of Fred Winter's jockeys, including John Francome.
