Googling a runner Elusive Pimpernel 3.05 Newmarket Based on the story of The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Elusive Pimpernel was a British period adventure film in 1950. The film, made by the British-based director-writer team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, was shot in colour but came out in the United States in black and white, retitled The Fighting Pimpernel. Starring David Niven, the film was originally planned as a musical, but was re-worked instead as a light-hearted drama.
