HORIZONS TECHNOLOGY CHOOSES SPOT FOR SURE!MAPS

RESTON, Va., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SPOT Image Corp. and Horizons Technology Inc. (HTI) announced the release of HTI's new product, Sure!Maps(TM), which features SPOT satellite imagery and other geographic information in a GIS-type software/data package. This low cost ($99 introductory price) user-friendly package was created for real estate, banking, corporate marketing, utility, insurance, franchise, engineering, government and other institutions which need a cost-effective way to visually portray and work with geographic information.
"Sure!Maps is an exciting breakthrough in providing easy access to geographic information and imagery," explained Ted Nanz, president of SPOT Image Corp. "Businesses work with this type of information on a daily basis, and this product will greatly improve their capabilities."
The software allows users to create map symbols, attribute files and notes about any region or individual feature within these areas. All this information can be visually portrayed or sorted to highlight specific features or characteristics of interest.
The initial Sure!Maps CD-Rom contains 1:24,000 and 1:100,000 USGS maps for 10 metropolitan areas, and a 5-digit ZIP code and area code data base. A sample SPOT imagery for the Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas area is also included. The SPOT imagery serves as a current "image- map" showing growth and land use changes which are not shown on the other maps and databases. Additional SPOT imager and USGS data sets will be available beginning in January.
SPOT was created as the world's first commercial remote sensing system, providing the most detailed unclassified satellite imagery available. SPOT Image Corp. has led the transition of remote sensing from a highly technical and limited market to a major component of the information services industry.
