HONEYWELL INTRODUCES TOTALHOME(TM) INTEGRATED HOME SYSTEM (Product Announcement)

HONEYWELL INTRODUCES TOTALHOME(TM) INTEGRATED HOME SYSTEM
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell today introduced an integrated home control system called TotalHome(TM). The integrated home system provides increased comfort and convenience for the typical working household and is affordable, flexible and easy to use. TotalHome is being introduced at the 1992 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) show in Las Vegas and will be shown at the Honeywell exhibit throughout the NAHB trade show from Jan. 24-26.
TotalHome integrates Honeywell home controls to create a more comfortable, secure, energy-efficient and simplified living environment at an affordable price. Through a single, easy-to operate TotalHome panel, the homeowner activates the customized system to secure the home, warn of the incidence of fire and smoke, control temperature, offer an inviting lighting environment and control appliances. With the proper access code, TotalHome can also be operated remotely or in the home using a touch-tone phone. The system can be as easy to use as an automated teller machine.
Unlike existing home automation offerings that range from $15,000 to $200,000 for an installed system, TotalHome is affordable. A typical TotalHome system -- featuring 10 points of lighting or appliance control; 10 points of security control; control of the home's temperature; two user interface panels, and remote phone access -- costs about $4,000 for a typical installation in a new or existing home. Honeywell TotalHome systems are professionally installed and monitored 24 hours a day.
"This is the most important advance in home controls that Honeywell has announced in 10 years," said Michael Bonsignore, Honeywell executive vice president and chief operating officer. "We expect this integrated home system to be a major factor in our residential business as Honeywell expands the definition of comfort in the home. Our research tells us that the timing is right and that the consumer is ready."
TotalHome is available to homeowners and builders through Honeywell's 55 Protection Services branch offices nationwide, as well as through Honeywell Perfect Climate(TM) dealers and builders. The system can be easily installed in existing dwellings or during the construction of new homes. "Unlike other integrated offerings, TotalHome can be installed in existing homes virtually without disturbing a thing," said Linda Whitman, Honeywell's director of advanced systems for homes.
"TotalHome is an extension of Honeywell's strong presence in the market. It is an important system for Honeywell because it allows us to leverage our expertise in technology and distribution for environmental control, home security and lighting to provide our customers even greater comfort and convenience with quality systems at a very affordable price" Bonsignore said.
Each TotalHome system is fully customized to fit the homeowner's individual needs and lifestyle. At the time of installation, Honeywell consults with the homeowner to design a scenario tailored to their personal preferences, which the installer then programs into the system. Homeowners not only choose which options each scenario will include -- such as temperature setting, which lights and appliances are on/off and security system status -- but also decide what the mode or scenario will be called -- such as GOOD NIGHT, GOOD MORNING or ON VACATION. Settings easily can be manually overridden but if homeowners find that they desire to permanently adjust a scenario, they simply call a Honeywell customer service representative who will remotely implement the change.
With a typical TotalHome scenario, a family may awake in the morning to a warm house, with coffee brewing and a lighted hallway leading to the bathroom. When leaving for work, the homeowner would select a new mode that lowers the temperature to save energy, turns on lights for a "lived-in look," shuts off appliances for safety and arms the security system -- all at the touch of a button. When the family arrives home, the system already would have returned their home to a comfortable living environment.
Either for short absences or long trips, TotalHome can provide a lived-in-look by controlling the home's lights, blinds or drapes and appliances. For longer absences, homeowners may want to activate another mode that adjusts the temperature for maximum energy savings.
Other system features can be added to monitor for extreme high or low temperatures, loss of power, flooding or other potentially hazardous situations, so homeowners can enjoy their vacation knowing their home is safe. These features are also ideal for ensuring the safety of second homes.
TotalHome easily accommodates changes in schedules. When TotalHome system owners change their minds or something unexpected happens, such as a delayed flight or canceled meeting, they simply use a touch-tone phone from their car or office to notify the system of the change in schedule.
TotalHome provides expanded comfort and convenience -- environmental control, security, air quality, wellness and peace of mind -- all from the company homeowners have been comfortable with for more than a century: Honeywell. TotalHome systems are professionally installed and monitored by Honeywell employees with the assurance of Honeywell value.
In addition to Honeywell systems included in the basic TotalHome system, Honeywell complements TotalHome with a full offering of compatible controls for comfort and convenience including: closed circuit video systems; intercoms; central vacuums; hazardous gas detectors; electronic air cleaners; energy recovery ventilators; zoning control systems; humidification controls; water filtration products and LiteCom, Honeywell's architectural dimming and appliance control system.
Call toll free 1-800-345-6770 ext. 2039 for more information on TotalHome or any of Honeywell's home products, or to request a no obligation visit from a Honeywell representative. Financing is available to qualified buyers, and Mastercard and VISA are also accepted.
