HONEYWELL ACQUIRES TWIN CITIES ALARM COMPANY

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today said it has purchased assets of Westco Security, a privately held, Twin Cities-based alarm company. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Westco has provided homes and businesses in the Twin Cities metropolitan area with security systems and services for 25 years. It is the largest independent residential alarm company in the Twin Cities.
"Personal safety and protection against burglary are growing concerns for home owners and businesses today," said Michael R. Bonsignore, Honeywell executive vice president and chief operating officer. "This purchase reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding our security business to meet the needs of this growing market. Westco complements our existing security business in the Twin Cities and provides an excellent fit with our strategic direction. We consider Westco to be the premier independent alarm service company in Minnesota."
According to Charlie Schoen, president of Westco, the sale will give Westco's customers access to Honeywell's leading technology. "There is a revolution taking place in the security industry in terms of technology," said Schoen. "As changes occur in the industry, Honeywell has the ability to offer our customers not only service and installation but the latest in new security solutions."
Westco's operations will be integrated with Honeywell's existing Twin Cities branch office, located at 2020 Bloomington Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Existing Westco customers will continue to be served by Honeywell.
Honeywell provides electronic security services to residential and commercial customers through 55 branch offices nationwide. Services include burglary and fire protection, access control, closed circuit video, maintenance and 24-hour central station monitoring. Earlier this year, Honeywell introduced TotalHome, an integrated home automation system that controls security, temperature, lighting and appliances and can be easily installed in new or existing homes.
Honeywell is a global controls company that provides products, systems and services for homes and buildings, industry, and aviation and space. The company employs 58,000 people worldwide and had 1991 sales of $6.2 billion.
