HONDA INTRODUCES NEW ACCORD COUPE

TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- American Honda Motor Co. Inc. today released the all-new 1994 Accord Coupe. With its sporty, distinctive styling, advanced ride and handling, and improved performance and fuel economy, the Accord Coupe joins the Sedan introduced this September in offering outstanding value.
Like the Sedan, all 1994 Accord Coupe models feature a driver's and front passenger's airbag supplemental restraint system (SRS) as standard equipment. The new Coupe also meets the 1997 Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for side-impact protection. Anti-lock brakes are standard on the top-of-the-line EX Coupe and optional on DX and LX models.
Pricing for the 1994 Accord Coupe has increased only 1.8 percent on a sales-weighted average, with prices for the entry-level DX versions unchanged from 1993 levels. Prices will start at $14,130 for the DX Coupe with manual transmission and range to $20,300 for the EX with automatic transmission.
"The new Accord Coupe represents outstanding value," said Richard Colliver, senior vice president of automobile sales for the Honda Division. "From the beginning, improving quality and value while controlling costs were key goals of the 1994 Accord design team. And the Accord Coupe is manufactured exclusively at Honda's auto manufacturing plant in Marysville, Ohio, with a domestic content of 82 percent."
The Accord Coupe DX and LX models are powered by a 2.2-liter, SOHC 16-valve engine that produces 130 horsepower. An all-new version of Honda's VTEC variable valve timing and lift engine technology gives the EX Coupe a more powerful 145 horsepower output while contributing to improved fuel economy. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, with a smooth shifting, electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission available on all models.
A refined four-wheel double wishbone suspension with a front stabilizer bar gives the Accord Coupe sporty handling characteristics and ride comfort. Power-assisted front ventilated disc/rear drums brakes are standard on the DX and LX models. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on the EX Coupe and on the DX and LX when equipped with ABS.
Standard features on the 1994 Accord DX coupe include variable- assist power steering, adjustable steering column, and center console armrest and storage compartment.
The more fully equipped LX includes air conditioning, cruise control, power-operated windows and door locks, and power side mirrors as standard equipment. A four-speaker AM/FM stereo cassette system is also standard, along with an integrated rear window antenna.
The top-of-the-line EX Coupe adds a more powerful VTEC engine, with larger 15-inch Michelin MXV-4 All-Season tires mounted on stylish alloy wheels and a rear stabilizer bar contributing to sportier handling characteristics. Interior comfort is enhanced with more luxurious interior fabrics, a driver's seat with adjustable lumbar support, and power height adjustment. A leather-trimmed interior is also available. A more powerful 4X20-watt AM/FM High-Power stereo cassette system with six speakers is standard on the Accord Cope EX.
All 1994 Honda Accord automobiles feature a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty.
