HONDA BREAKS GROUND FOR NORTH CAROLINA R&D CENTER

SWEPSONVILLE, N.C., Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Honda R&D North America, Inc. (HRA), broke ground today for a new research facility dedicated to the development of Honda lawn and garden products for the North American and export markets.
The new facility, to be known as the HRA-North Carolina Center, will be located adjacent to the Honda Power Equipment Mfg., Inc. (HPE) manufacturing plant in Swepsonville that produces walk-behind type and riding lawn mowers. The North Carolina Center will initially accommodate about 15 associates.
"The primary purpose of the North Carolina Center is to develop power equipment products that meet the needs of North American customers and to provide technical support to HPE," said Takeshi Yamada, president of Honda R&D North America. "The addition of the North Carolina Center to other Honda R&D operations in California and Ohio will increase our ability to develop unique Honda products for the North American market and will help strengthen the relationships with our North American suppliers."
The HRA-North Carolina Center will be completed in summer 1993 and will coincide with the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Honda Power Equipment Mfg. in North Carolina.
