 HOMI B. PATEL NAMED PRESIDENT OF HARTMARX CORP.
 CHICAGO, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hartmarx (NYSE: HMX) announced


today the promotion of Homi B. Patel to the position of president of Hartmarx Corp. The announcement was made by E.O. Hand, chairman and chief executive officer. Patel, who will report directly to Hand, will continue as chairman of the Hartmarx Men's Apparel Group.
 Hand stated, "The focus of the company is now on expanding our successful men's and women's manufacturing and wholesale operations. I look forward to Homi's partnership and extensive experience in this area to help us achieve our goals."
 Patel joined Hartmarx in 1979 as vice president and general manager of Fashionaire, its career apparel subsidiary. Two years later he became executive vice president of the Austin Reed division of the corporation's Hart Schaffner & Marx subsidiary. In 1982, Patel was named executive vice president of Intercontinental Branded Apparel and became its president and chief executive officer in 1984. In 1987, he took additional responsibilities by being named group executive vice president of the Men's Apparel Group. Patel was elected president of the Men's Apparel Group in 1990 and chairman and chief executive officer in 1991.
 Patel received his B.S. degree in statistics in 1972 from the University of Bombay and an M.B.A. degree in 1974 from the graduate School of Business at Columbia University.
 Prior to joining Hartmarx, Patel was executive assistant to the president and director of marketing of Corbin, Ltd., New York.
 In January 1992, Patel was elected president of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of America (CMA) and has also served as CMA's chief labor negotiator, representing the U.S. tailored clothing industry for many years.
 Additionally, Patel is on the advisory committee of the Amalgamated Life Insurance Co. and the University of South Carolina School of Retailing.
