HOME SAVINGS OF AMERICA ACQUIRES EIGHT BRANCHES OF HOMEFED IN SAN BERNARDINO AND RIVERSIDE COUNTIES

 IRWINDALE, Calif., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Home Savings of America, the principal subsidiary of H.F. Ahmanson & Co. (NYSE: AHM), today announced it has acquired eight branches of HomeFed Bank in San Bernardino and Riverside counties from the Resolution Trust Corp.
 The acquisition, which became final at 6 p.m. PST today, includes approximately $190 million in retail deposits at the eight branches. The branches are located in San Bernardino, Hemet, Montclair, Upland, Corona Hills, Apple Valley, Victorville, and Barstow, Calif.
 Home Savings said it will simultaneously sell the branch in Apple Valley to First Federal Savings and Loan Association of San Bernardino.
 The remaining seven branches will open for business as usual as Home Savings of America branches on Monday morning, Dec. 6.
 With the addition of the seven new retail branches, Home Savings of America now serves more than 2.5 million customers from 364 savings branches in seven states and 90 mortgage lending offices in 12 states.
 Home Savings of America, with more than $50 billion in assets and over $38 billion in deposits, is the nation's largest savings institution.
