 HOME DEPOT OPENS 200TH STORE 13 YEARS FROM ITS START;
 PLANS TO OPEN 500TH STORE BY END OF 1996
 ATLANTA, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot (NYSE: HD), America's largest home center retailer, opened its 199th and 200th stores in San Antonio today, 13 years after the company began operations in Atlanta with two stores.
 Home Depot rolled over the 200 mark the same day by opening Catonsville, Md., as its 201st store.
 Just 13 years ago Home Depot founders, Bernie Marcus, chairman and chief executive officer and Arthur M. Blank, president and chief operating officer, opened the first doors of Home Depots in Atlanta, the headquarters of the company.
 Their vision in 1979 was to offer an unprecedented level of service at warehouse prices with a huge assortment of goods. That vision has proven phenomenally successful and the company is positioned for continued growth. By the end of 1996, Home Depot plans to be operating 500 stores in approximately 35 states.
 Founded in 1978, Home Depot operates its current 201 stores in 18 states. Its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HD," and is included in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
