HOLLYWOOD PET STORE PUTS NEW SPIN ON AN OLD YARN
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Spinning llama fur into

yarn may be considered a lost art ... but what about spinning pet fur into yarn? Pet store retailer, Lynn Lewin, owner of For Pets Only, thinks it's a good idea and will sponsor a "Llama and Pet Yarn Spinning Event" at her La Brea store located in Hollywood on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 1-2:30 p.m. Pet owners have been asked to bring fur from their pet to spin into yarn for hats, sweaters, mittens and just about anything that can be knitted.
"It's perfectly safe for the animals because only fur from brushing the animal is used." said Lewin. "The cleansing and spinning process eliminates dirt and odor, which is usually a concern for some. Most people really love the idea of spinning their pets' fur into yarn because it represents yet another extension of that special, loving relationship between them and their pet ... and it's a fascinating thing to learn."
 Meet and Pet Live Llamas
This special, free event for the whole family will feature live llamas for petting, and Bob and Irma Cuervo will demonstrate their spinning techniques using both llama and pet fur.
 The Interactive Retail Approach
Sponsoring educational, entertaining events is nothing new to Lewin. Llama and pet yarn spinning is only one of many fascinating events held at her stores. In the past there have been puppy parties, pet psychics and special seminars, such as "How to Prepare a Will For Continued Care For A Pet ... After Your Demise," "Dealing With Destructive Pet Behavior" and "Living With Both Cats and Dogs."
Lewin's innovative approach to retail extends beyond her everyday business responsibilities. By publishing a quarterly eight-page "For Pets Only Press" newsletter, featuring articles from experts as well as her customers, she is able to reach out to the community, providing an interactive arena for education and involvement. The newsletter is an invaluable communication tool, addressing current pet issues, while providing information about rescue and adoption organizations, special pet services, such as pet tattooing, veterinary house calls for cats, pet day care, puppy training and vaccination clinics ... a kind of community bulletin board ... for pets.
"Many retailers have forgotten what the word service means," said Lewin. "I want to encourage my customers to learn as much as they can about their pets. Every day, pets are left homeless or are turned into the pound simply because the owner is not equipped to deal with the long-term responsibility of caring for a pet. Pet owners need to learn about responsibility and they need to appreciate the process, the work and the commitment it takes to provide a happy home for a pet."
Entertaining and informative events give pet owners the opportunity to explore and learn in a fun, sharing and open forum. It's delightful to listen to people talk about their pets at our events," Lewin disclosed. "They are so passionate and so eager to improve their relationship with their pet. Marriage counselors could learn a lot from them."
