HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE AND 12 TONS OF CHRISTMAS SNOW FOR L.A.'S HOMELESS CHILDREN

HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE AND 12 TONS
OF CHRISTMAS SNOW FOR L.A.'S HOMELESS CHILDREN
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Twelve tons of imported snow and hundreds of toys will make the holiday season special for Los Angeles homeless children at the Valley Shelter on Dec. 22. In its third year of playing "Santa" at the homeless shelter in North Hollywood, Continental Coin Corp. and donors to its toy drive will also be instrumental in creating a "winter wonderland" of snow for the children's enjoyment. The goal of this annual toy drive is to ensure that each homeless child receives a gift.
A program of the L.A. Family Housing Corp., Valley Shelter houses 150 children and adults each night throughout the year. With an estimated 35,000 - 50,000 homeless in Los Angeles alone, it has become the homeless "capital" of the nation. More than 10,000 children sleep on the streets of Los Angeles each night. With families and children among the fastest growing segment of the homeless, the shelter program offers families food, medical care, job counseling and placement, and assistance in finding permanent housing. This comprehensive social service plan helps families get back on their feet and keeps the family unit intact.
"The holiday season, traditionally a time for home, lots of good food and gifts, is especially hard on homeless families," says a shelter spokesperson. "At Valley Shelter, we try to make this time as pleasant as possible, but we cannot provide toys for the children. We're very fortunate that the public was moved to help last year and the response to Continental's drive was overwhelming. We wish each donor could see the happiness that their gifts brought to the children. We hope this year's toy drive is equally successful. Those moved to contribute should realize that these children will probably always remember their holiday at the shelter and the kindness they were shown by the community."
Gifts for the holiday give-away should be brought to Continental Coin Corp., 5627 Sepulveda Blvd. (the corner of Burbank and Sepulveda), in Van Nuys. Each donor will receive a free limited edition medallion holiday tree ornament as a token of appreciation. Call 818-781-4232 for any further information.
