HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE TO MARKET INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY EXPERTISE
 FOR RESERVATIONS SERVICES
ATLANTA, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Holiday Inn Worldwide today said it will market its advanced information technology expertise to hotel and travel companies for reservations processing and for access to airline computer reservations systems.
The project will be offered through a newly created subsidiary called ResCom Communications, Inc. and marketed by an independent third firm, Global-Res, Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz.
Utilizing excess capacity of Holiday Inn Worldwide's mainframe computer network, ResCom provides computer systems, software programs and telecommunications links for central reservations processing, inventory management, frequency program administration, travel agency commission payments and related services to the hospitality industry.
Global-Res, Inc. provides sales, marketing and account management and it also will operate reservations centers in Scottsdale; Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Hong Kong; Tokyo, and Sydney.
Potential clients include hotel companies as well as travel wholesalers, rental car firms and other travel and hospitality companies.
"Our research shows marketplace demand for this type of service is high," said Dick Smith, senior vice president of information technology for Holiday Inn Worldwide. "This information processing service will be particularly attractive to small and medium size hospitality companies that are not in a position to invest major resources for their own computer systems."
Holiday Inn Worldwide created the hotel industry's first central reservations system -- Holidex -- 27 years ago and has regularly enhanced its capabilities, including a $60 million investment announced earlier this year.
Smith emphasized that Holidex, its proprietary services, toll-free reservations numbers and reservations staff will remain solely committed to Holiday Inn Worldwide and its franchisees.
"Our mainframe capacity exceeds the needs of Holidex, so we want to convert that additional capacity into a profit center," Smith said.
Holiday Inn Worldwide, which is owned by Bass PLC of the U.K., is the world's leading hotel chain, with nearly 1,700 hotels and 330,000 guest rooms in 54 countries and territories around the world.
