HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE INVESTS IN NEW GLOBAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE INVESTS IN NEW GLOBAL PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
NEW YORK, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- When Holiday Inn Worldwide installs its new global property management system in more than 1,600 hotels beginning later this year, it will become the largest user of the ENCORE system in the world.
The property management system will include a proprietary two-way interface with Holidex(R), Holiday Inn's computerized central reservation system with the world's largest centralized room inventory.
Purchasing the property management system software for its 1,600-plus hotels worldwide is part of Holiday Inn's $60 million investment in information technology that will be a significant competitive advantage for the brand.
The property management software simplifies reservations, front desk/check-in procedures, guest accounting, housekeeping, night audit, accounts receivable, guest history, guest messages, and includes management reports and group and package management features.
"In a nutshell, our new global property management system will automate the front desk procedures, for faster, more-efficient check-in, as well as post charges quickly and more reliably," said Trevor Jones, senior vice president-Corporate Development for Holiday Inn Worldwide.
"This is all designed to improve guests' experience at the hotel, particularly at the front desk, which is a critical first impression of the brand."
Jones said that the decision to purchase software was "part of a deliberate strategy to get out of the business of developing property management software. We realized that we could provide high quality service to our guests, and to our hotels, with solutions already available in the marketplace."
Each hotel in the chain as of March 31, 1992, will be provided, free of charge, use of a core package of hardware and software for the property management system. The package will include use of computer terminals, software and training.
The roll-out of the system, which is expected to take two-and-a-half years, will begin in the fall of 1992.
Interfaces will also be provided in the core package that will allow hotels with Point of Sale and Call Accounting systems to post restaurant, gift shop and telephone charges more accurately to a guest's bill.
"When franchisees join Holiday Inn, they primarily buy two things: a brand name that packs marketing power and a reservation system that generates room sales," said Jones. "This investment will enhance both of these benefits."
The software will be offered in different languages as it is installed in Holiday Inn hotels around the world. Current plans call for implementation in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and English.
ENCORE Systems, Inc. is the Atlanta-based developer of management systems for the hospitality industry; specializing in property management systems for the lodging industry and shipboard management systems for the cruise line segment.
Holiday Inn Worldwide, which is owned by the U.K.'s leading brewer Bass PLC, is the world's leading hotel chain, with more than 1,600 hotels and nearly 326,000 guest rooms in 52 countries and territories around the world.
