HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE CREATES BREAKTHROUGH HOTEL TECHNOLOGY
NEW YORK, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In a move that will revolutionize the way hotel operators manage room inventory, Holiday Inn Worldwide today announced the creation of the Holiday Inn Reservation Optimization (HIRO) system.
HIRO is part of Holiday Inn's $60 million investment in information technology that will be a significant competitive advantage for the brand.
The computer software adds a new dimension to reservation system technology and is the first automated length-of-stay optimization to be integrated with a central reservation system.
Prior to HIRO, hotel companies primarily made reservations based on rate and room availability. With HIRO, Holiday Inn hotels will be able to use length of stay as a third consideration as well; consumers will benefit from the increased availability of rooms at a wider range of price points, which in turn will reduce the number of times they are unable to get the room they want.
"We have made a major investment in technology to benefit our guests," said Trevor Jones, senior vice president-Corporate Development of Holiday Inn Worldwide. "Customers will now have a greater variety of discounts available at Holiday Inn hotels throughout the world; hotels will be better able to effectively manage a large number of discounted rates."
HIRO, which uses artificial intelligence, will help hotels to manage discounted rates and rooms better, as well as feed information into the Holidex reservation system, providing information to franchisees and Holiday Inn Worldwide about their customers and the effectiveness of marketing programs.
HIRO will operate from a centralized system in Holiday Inn's new data center in Alpharetta, Ga.
"Innovation in technology has always been a hallmark of Holiday Inn," said Richard L. Smith, vice president-Information Technology. "It has been our point of differentiation since we introduced Holidex(R) in 1965, which at the time was the first computerized hotel reservation system. Over the years, we were the first major hotel chain to offer a centralized travel agent commission plan, to 'direct link' our reservation system with the airline reservation systems and the first to automate room-rate updates in a CRS system. The development of HIRO is the next step, and will put us years ahead of our competition."
Installation of the HIRO system will begin in the fall and is expected to be completed in all hotels around the world within two years.
Holiday Inn Worldwide, which is owned by the U.K.'s leading brewer Bass PLC, is the world's leading hotel chain, with more than 1,600 hotels and nearly 326,000 guest rooms in 52 countries and territories around the world.
