HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE BRAND PORTFOLIO STRATEGY

HOLIDAY INN WORLDWIDE BRAND PORTFOLIO STRATEGY
NEW YORK, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Holiday Inn Worldwide, which

is owned by the U.K.'s leading brewer Bass PLC, is the world's leading hotel chain with more than 1,600 hotels and nearly 326,000 guest rooms in 52 countries and territories around the world.
The company positions its portfolio of hotel products to the broad range of mid-market customers, which represent over 70 percent of all room nights sold around world.
"The lodging industry has always defined middle market as full-service hotels serving a homogeneous consumer base," said J. Raymond Lewis Jr., senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing for Holiday Inn Worldwide. "But if you look at it from the consumer's point of view, the middle market really serves a collection of many smaller markets and contains many different products.
"The 'middle market' is really a relative position between the 'sleep cheap' and luxury hotels. That makes for a wide playing field of opportunity."
 Portfolio of Products
What's important to understand, Lewis continued, is that consumers want different products for different travel occasions. Holiday Inn has a portfolio of products to meet the diverse needs of its customers.
Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza(R) hotels are the company's top-of-the-line facilities. Located in major cities and resort destinations worldwide, these hotels provide extras in service and amenities designed for both leisure and business travelers. They offer full-service meeting facilities, health clubs, excellent meeting facilities and fine restaurants. Well-appointed Executive Floors also are available at many Crowne Plaza hotels, and provide supplementary services such as evening cocktails and complimentary continental breakfast, serviced in a private Executive Level lounge.
Holiday Inn(R) hotels offer dependable service and attractive facilities, including restaurants, lounges, swimming pools and meeting and banquet facilities. These full-service hotels are conveniently located virtually everywhere -- in big cities, small towns, near airports and along highways.
Holiday Inn Express(R) hotels are Holiday Inn Worldwide's entry into the upper economy segment of the middle market in North America. They are economically priced properties that offer all the dependability that comes with a traditional Holiday Inn hotel, but without the amenities and features (such as meeting rooms and room service) that travelers may not need on every travel occasion. Holiday Inn Express(R) hotels offer free local phone calls and a complimentary breakfast buffet.
Holiday Inn Garden Court(sm) hotels are a new Holiday Inn niche product located in smaller European towns and cities. These are small-sized, competitively priced, three-star properties that meet the needs of business and leisure travelers who seek modern, inexpensive accommodations with guaranteed standards.
With the introduction of Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resorts(sm) and SunSpree Resorts(sm) in October of 1991, Holiday Inn became the first major hotel chain to offer a resort concept that provides resort amenities and affordable accommodations. Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort hotels will be full-activity hotels in preferred leisure destinations that provide a comfortable, casual vacation for the middle market traveler. Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resort hotels will be "marquee" properties that deliver a full-service resort experience. Located in prime resort destinations, Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Resort hotels will feature a variety of restaurants, shops, extensive meeting space and a range of destination-specific recreational activities. Because of their location and facilities, these properties make exceptionally good choices for upscale meetings and incentives.
