ATLANTA, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Holiday Inn Worldwide announced today its plans to develop and manage 30 Holiday Inn Express hotels in Indonesia over the next seven years, as part of a joint venture agreement with PT Hotel Dirgahayu Indah Raya, part of Susanti Group.
According to David Paulon, executive vice president and managing director of Holiday Inn Worldwide - Asia Pacific, the properties will include both new builds and conversions, and will cater to the Indonesian domestic market.
"Our market research has confirmed the need for smaller, limited service hotels geared toward the domestic business traveler," said Paulon. "These hotels are designed to appeal to the budget-minded guest who may not need full-service facilities and amenities on every travel occasion."
Paulon said the Express hotels will maintain the standards of quality and service associated with the Holiday Inn name, including clean, comfortable rooms and a restaurant at each hotel. The architecture and interior design of all the hotels will have an Indonesian orientation, and options such as business centers, banquet and meeting facilities and swimming pools will be offered depending on market need and space availability at each location.
The properties will be located in suburban areas of major cities and secondary and tertiary locations throughout Indonesia. The first of the 100- to 150-room hotels is expected to open in early 1995.
"With a solid economy and political stability, Indonesia is an ideal place for us to focus our development efforts," said Bryan D. Langton, chairman and chief executive officer of Holiday Inn Worldwide. "Indonesia is the fifth largest country in the world with a population of more than 180 million people and is an important region for growing the chain and capitalizing on our leadership position in the Asia Pacific area."
In addition to the 30 Express hotels to be developed through this partnership, Holiday Inn Worldwide will continue to pursue opportunities for both Holiday Inn hotels and Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza hotels in major international gateways, as well as tourist and leisure destinations. Holiday Inn Bali Hai, which opened in 1991, will soon be joined by Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Jakarta, scheduled to open mid-1994 and Holiday Inn Lombok, scheduled to open in early 1995. Properties are also planned in Medan and Yogjakarta.
Holiday Inn Worldwide recently announced record development during the first six months of 1993, opening a hotel every other day on average, for a total of 91 new properties.
Holiday Inn Worldwide, which is owned by Bass PLC of the U.K., operates more than 1,770 hotels and 338,000 guest rooms in over 50 countries around the world. Holiday Inn is the world's largest single hotel brand.
